INZ1020 - Application for a Variation of Conditions or a Variation of Travel Conditions

The INZ 1020 form is used by individuals on a temporary visa in New Zealand (visitor, student, or work visa) to apply for changes to their visa conditions. This includes changing your job, employer, location of work, course of study, or adding travel conditions to leave and return to New Zealand.

​Temporary visa holders in New Zealand (work, student, or visitor visas) can apply to change their visa conditions if eligible.

What changes can I request with the INZ 1020 form?​

You can request to:
  • Change your job, employer, or work location (work visa).
  • Change your course, provider, or study location (student visa).
  • Study or work part-time on a visitor visa (specific cases only).

​What is a variation of travel conditions?

​If you hold a temporary visa and need to leave and return to New Zealand during your stay, you can apply for a variation of travel conditions using this form.

​Do I need my employer’s involvement for a work visa variation?

Yes, if you’re changing your employer, they may need to complete an Employer Supplementary Form (INZ 1113) and provide evidence of labour market testing, unless they are accredited under the AEWV scheme or your role is exempt.
