Amit is passionate about helping new migrants to contribute towards building future capabilities of New Zealand. He was born in Fiji and migrated to New Zealand in 2006. Amit has broad experience in all aspects of accounting and financial management including almost 20 years of professional work experience with roles in multinational corporation, large complex organizations, small to medium enterprises and various not for profit organizations.
Given Amit’s involvement in various governance roles he has an excellent understanding of collective responsibility for Board decisions. Being in the accounting and finance profession Amit has a very comprehensive business and financial acumen including sound business judgement and up-to-date awareness of business management practices; depth and breadth of experience that informs judgement.
He has leadership and financial management skills including the ability to provide vision, innovation and professional guidance to a management team, and to foster high performance and results. Amit has a good awareness of the functions and policies of the organization, its governance framework, including board, member groups, and major advisory committees, and the legal frameworks within which it operates in. Amit is a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion and has a good cognizance of the importance of this an organisation. He has a good understanding and ability to identify the impact of policies and actions to take a balanced view of issues, considering the interests of its key stakeholders.
Through his continuous professional development in governance and strategy Amit has gained insights of good governance principles and practice, as well as the governance framework of a membership organization. Amit is a Chartered Accountant with Chartered Accountant Australia and New Zealand, a Fellow Certified Practicing Accountant of CPA Australia, Member of Institute of Directors, and holds an MBA from Deakin University in Melbourne. His currently engaged as a Director of Finance with the University of Auckland Business School in his professional role.
