Enhancements to the UK Working Holiday Scheme from 1 July 2023

​Exciting opportunities are on the horizon for UK citizens seeking adventure and employment in New Zealand. Starting July 1st, 2023, the UK Working Holiday Scheme (WHS) is undergoing upgrades that will allow individuals to explore and work in the beautiful country for extended periods of time.
 
This development is the result of collaboration between the Prime Ministers of the UK and New Zealand, who first announced the planned updates to the WHS and the Youth Mobility Scheme for New Zealanders in the UK.
 
Here's what you need to know:

• The age range for eligibility for a UK WHS visa will be 18 to 35 years.
• Visa holders will have the opportunity to stay in New Zealand for a maximum of three years.
• Working throughout the entire duration of the visa will be permitted.
• An impressive quota of up to 15,000 visas may be granted annually under the UK WHS.

 
Certain requirements must be met for visa applicants:
 
If the total length of stay exceeds 12 months, applicants must provide a medical and chest x-ray certificate to the Immigration New Zealand (INZ). For stays of more than 24 months, police certificates will also be necessary.
 
For current UK Working Holiday visa holders already in New Zealand, here's some good news:

• Beginning July 1st, 2023, they will have the opportunity to extend their stay and apply for the new three-year maximum duration.
• To support their application, these individuals will need to provide a medical and x-ray certificate, as well as police certificates, if not already provided.
