Active Investor Plus Visa

Invest in New Zealand and Gain Residency with the Active Investor Plus Visa

Looking to invest in New Zealand and gain residency for you and your family? As of 1 April 2025, Immigration New Zealand (INZ) has reinforced the Active Investor Plus Visa as the primary pathway for high-net-worth individuals to secure residence while contributing to the country’s economic growth.

At Immigration Trust, we’ve successfully supported clients from Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, the Middle East, and other Asian countries, as well as the USA and Europe, under New Zealand’s previous investor visa programmes  -  including those with medical or character issues. We bring that experience into the new regime, helping you navigate the process from start to finish.

What Is the Active Investor Plus Visa?

The Active Investor Plus Visa is a category within INZ’s Business Residence Program, tailored for experienced international investors. It allows you to gain New Zealand residency by committing NZD $5 million to $15 million in eligible investments over 3 to 5 years.
You can choose between two pathways:
  • Growth Category: NZD $5 million in direct investments in high-growth Kiwi businesses (3-year path)
  • Balanced Category: NZD $10 million across a diversified investment portfolio (5-year path)
Immigration Trust can guide you in selecting the best option based on your financial goals and risk appetite.

New INZ Prioritisation Rules (Effective 1 April 2025)

INZ’s updated Operational Manual (A16.1) introduces a fast-track for well-prepared applications. Priority is given to:
  • Applications with complete and policy-aligned documentation
  • Applicants switching between investment categories (e.g., Growth to Balanced)
  • Those upgrading from older investor visa schemes
Working with a trusted expert like Immigration Trust ensures your application meets all criteria for priority processing.

Key Benefits of the Active Investor Plus Visa

Pathway to Residency: Qualify for residence by meeting investment and stay requirements
Family Friendly: Include your partner and dependent children under 25 in one application
Investment Flexibility: Choose from growth or balanced options to meet the required investment thresholds
Stay Requirements: Meet residency obligations over a 3-5 year investment horizon
Priority Processing: INZ may prioritise complete and compliant applications

Don’t Overlook Medical & Character Requirements

Even high-value investors must still meet INZ’s good character and acceptable standard of health criteria.
At Immigration Trust, we’re experts in:
  • Medical waivers for pre-existing health conditions
  • Character waivers for past convictions, visa breaches, or misrepresentation
  • Responding to PPI letters and liaising with case officers professionally
We’ve successfully helped clients with medical and character concerns still gain residency under investor categories.
