The NZ Green List currently consists of approximately 90 occupations, which are categorized into two tiers. The Tier 1 occupations primarily include construction managers, surveyors, engineers, medical specialists/doctors, scientists, multimedia specialists, and ICT roles. On the other hand, the Tier 2 occupations comprise of health professionals (such as nurses), specific teaching and trade roles, and dairy farm management roles.
New job categories are regularly added to the Green List. For example, from 10th October 2022, additional ICT roles were included in the Tier 1 category. Additionally, the government has declared that health care workers will be added to the Tier 2 list.
Individuals who are employed (or have received an offer of employment) in a Tier 1 role can apply directly for residence. Whereas, those employed in a Tier 2 occupation can apply for residence after working for at least two years in New Zealand (work-to-residence pathway).
