What Is Ministerial Intervention?
Ministerial Intervention is a last-resort request to the Minister of Immigration when all standard visa options, appeals, or reconsiderations have been exhausted. It’s rare — but possible — if there are exceptional humanitarian grounds.
Not a right — MI is granted only in extraordinary situations
Usually applies after:
IPT appeal failed
Section 61 declined
No visa pathways left

You may be eligible if:
You’ve been unlawfully in NZ and exhausted other options
You have New Zealand-born children or family hardship
You or your partner have serious medical issues

Q: Is Ministerial Intervention guaranteed? A: No. It's entirely at the discretion of the Minister and very rarely granted — but strong cases with humanitarian factors can succeed. Q: Can I apply myself? A: Yes, but a poorly prepared request is likely to be ignored. We prepare strong, well-evidenced cases that have the best chance of being considered. Q: How long does it take? A: Several months in most cases. Urgency must be justified.
