Facing a Deportation Liability Notice (DLN) can be overwhelming, but there are appeal options in New Zealand to help challenge it. A DLN is the initial step in a possible removal process, often met with fear and uncertainty. Yet, there are legal avenues available that may change the outcome.
Last year, a client, a New Zealand resident, contacted us urgently when his partner received a DLN. They found us online and promptly booked a consultation to address this critical issue. Since they planned to apply for a partnership visa, cancelling or suspending the DLN was essential, as the partner’s character assessment is pivotal for visa approval. Normally, with an active DLN, this visa application would have faced rejection. After the consultation, the client engaged with Simon, our CEO, who promptly liaised with the case officer. By requesting a suspension and outlining the circumstances, Simon successfully had the DLN suspended for two years. This was a vital first step, enabling them to proceed with a Character Waiver application to boost her work visa chances. Together with the client, Simon gathered evidence demonstrating her strong character and suitability to live and work in New Zealand. They reviewed and submitted the documentation, and soon after, they received a positive result. The client was thrilled with the outcome and deeply grateful for Simon’s assistance. Note: The client and Simon managed this entire process virtually via our advanced IT system, a policy we adopted for efficiency even after COVID-19 restrictions lifted.
