We recently assisted the Wellington Indian Association in securing work visas for three skilled musicians from India to perform at the 2024 Navratri and Diwali celebrations. Held at the Indian Cultural Centre in Wellington, these events play a vital role in preserving cultural heritage within the local community.
The musicians, masters of traditional Indian instruments like the dhol, tabla, and harmonium, were instrumental in creating a vibrant festive atmosphere. Despite challenges with tight timelines and extensive documentation requirements under the Immigration Act 2009, we ensured a seamless process. By working closely with the association, we gathered key documents such as performance invitations, contracts, and evidence of the event’s cultural significance. Our proactive approach ensured the work visas were approved well ahead of the celebrations. The musicians’ performances not only delighted the audience but also strengthened cultural ties between New Zealand and India, showcasing the enduring power of music and tradition.
